BEAHIVE + CHRONOGRAM = BEACON + KINGSTON
Beehives are full of historical symbolism, often representing industry, resourcefulness and collaboration (our favorite). How fitting for this exciting announcement.
We're partnering with Chronogram (Luminary Publishing) to populate another BEAHIVE in Kingston, the third oldest city in New York and our first state capital. It should be buzzing on Wall St. in the historic Uptown District by November.
This partnership will grow our community and our impact, helping us to realize our larger vision. Chronogram nourishes and supports the creative and cultural life of the Hudson Valley — much as we're contributing to the creative, cultural and professional life of Beacon. More details to come.
SEEKING INTERNS To help us with all of this buzziness and the many more plans we have in mind, we're looking for an intern or two. They'll get free, full-time membership, a growing network of mentors, and a breadth of experience not found in a conventional workplace. Interested or know someone? Check out this description and email Scott.
TRY THE HIVE FOR FREE Finally, note our first OPEN HIVE / work - Free Workday at the Hive on October 8. Get a taste of what it's like to work here. Get out of your home, Zuzu's, the library, wherever it is you normally labor away and work with us for the day. See what ad hoc collaboration and a warm workplace can do for your productivity and creativity.
And check out all the other events we continue to produce and host in Beacon. Some are only for members, some are open to all. See side column. All the details are on our Meetup group. Join so you can get reminders of specific events that interest you.
MEMBER BZZZ
New member: art consultant Dorothy Solomon of DSA Fine Arts.
Anne Dailey has two articles in the Fall issue of Edible Hudson Valley, which isn't yet online but can be found free all over the place: "The Right Cut" profiling Fleisher's Meats in Kingston (!) and "Resetting the Apple Cart" about heirloom varieties.
Paul O'Hanlon did the photography for Anne's aforementioned story on heirloom apples.
Help Kelly Kingman celebrate the grand opening of Clay Wood & Cotton on Saturday, Oct. 10 (4 – 8pm, 149 Main St). Pie and mulled cider (yum), live music and lovely, handmade homegoods.
Founder Scott Tillitt — whose other life is doing communications and PR for the public good through Antidote Collective — is promoting Nothing. Seriously, publicity for a book entitled You Don't Have to Be Buddhist to Know Nothing: An Illustrious Collection of Thoughts on Naught. It hits bookstores October 27.
Scott also recently did some publicity for The Buddha Prince, an outdoor walking play celebrating the life and teachings of the Dalai Lama — seen by 3000+ people in Central Park over Labor Day weekend.
I [HEXAGON] BEAHIVE
"BEAHIVE is very exciting (almost like a dream come true). You are helping me realize my vision for the building 'serving' the community. Thank you!" (Deborah Bigelow, building owner and partner in custom finishing studio American Burnish)
I [HEXAGON]...
"Homespun's iced coffee." (Steven Blumenthal)
